Assessing implicit attitudes about androgyny

This research examines attitudes towards androgyny using a novel Implicit Association Test (IAT) that assesses implicit evaluations of gender conforming people (i.e., those who look stereotypically male or female) vs. androgynous whose appearance includes combination masculine and feminine traits). Over 6 studies ( N > 6000), we develop expression IAT present evidence for its internal validity incremental predictive with relevant psychosocial attitudes, such as need closure, political ideology, support nonbinary affirming policies. Although the consistently revealed more positive associations than was reliably correlated parallel measures explicit it failed to predict several behavioral outcomes related in contexts like judgment, perceptual fluency, mouse-tracking. We discuss implications these results concerning study social cognition.
